Assistant Prof. of Clinical Psychology, CSU Monterey Bay

California State University, Monterey Bay is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor in clinical psychology to start in August 2016. CSUMB is nationally recognized for its service-learning work. We are looking for candidates who have had experience with service-learning and experience teaching from a social justice perspective. We will begin screening on January 8, 2016.

CSUMB is a small public university that serves the students of California, particularly those in the Tri-Country region (Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Benito Counties). We are located on the old Fort Ord in Seaside, CA. The student population of CSUMB is culturally and economically diverse. Over half of our students are first-generation college students. We are looking for candidates whose teaching philosophy is respectful and responsive to our population of students.

The psychology program is relatively new. We started offering the B.A. in 2007. We are looking for candidates who are flexible team players who can roll up their sleeves and are excited about digging in and building a program for the next generation of students.

We focus on teaching at CSUMB and we believe that research is a part of our teaching mission. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to combine teaching with research with undergraduates.

These are the minimum qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in psychology by the time of appointment from an accredited doctoral program.
  • Experience working effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to teach a broad range of courses in psychology
  • Experience teaching undergraduates using active, learner-centered pedagogy.
  • Record of publishing research in area of expertise.

Desirable qualifications are:

  • Demonstrated mentorship of students in research and/or student groups (e.g., Psi Chi).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in professional or academic areas.
  • Experience with guiding students in service-learning.
  • Experience teaching from a social justice perspective.
  • Experience teaching about social group identities: race; class; gender; sexual orientation.
