Director, Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service, NC State University

The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service (CSLEPS) is part of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) and is organizationally housed within the Office of Student Leadership & Engagement. CSLEPS’ vision is to produce leaders with wisdom, compassion and integrity to promote a lasting commitment to the betterment of society. With ethics at its core, CSLEPS values local and global civic engagement, personal leadership development and diversity and provides unique learning experiences for NC State students that teach the importance and value of service, responsible citizenship and ethics. CSLEPS maintains service-learning partnerships in over 10 countries focused on global health, education, substandard housing, hunger policy, water quality and sanitation, environmental issues, gender,GLBT issues, and civil rights.

At its core, the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement is focused on supporting student success by creating seamless learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. With a focus on collaboration, the unit strives to provide meaningful experiences for students as they prepare to be leaders who serve as engaged citizens in local, national and global communities. The unit embraces the responsibility to develop diverse partnerships that enhance the student learning experience and enrich the communities in which they interact. The team is significantly enhanced by student leaders and student employees who are central to the vision and instrumental to the success of the program.

Specifically, the Office of Student Leadership & Engagement helps students:
• Develop leadership skills through the study of leadership and real world applications with a focus on transferable skills.
• Develop critical thinking skills that prepare them to be active members in their communities.
• Develop frameworks for ethical decision making consistent with their core values.
• Understand their roles in a globally connected world and develop cultural competencies needed to work and live in an increasingly diverse world.
• Develop academic success strategies that support their progress towards graduation.
• Explore their passions and prepare them for life after college.
• Feel connected to the university community through engaging educational, cultural and memorable campus experiences.
• Identify appropriate resources to support intellectual, cultural, social and spiritual development.
Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Leadership and Engagement, the Director provides leadership for a shared vision between the center, its staff and many community partners engaging with students in the world around them to develop as global citizens. With a focus on the University’s strategic goals of student success and developing socially responsible leaders for the state, the nation, and the world, the Director is responsible for developing partnerships between Academic and Student Affairs. These partnerships provide challenging learning experiences that support students’ intellectual, cultural, social and spiritual development. The Director is a member of the DASA leadership team and serves on appropriate unit and university committees. The Director will represent the division and university as directed.
