Coordinator of Community Partnerships, Carlson Leadership and Public Service Center, University of Washington

The Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center develops service-Learning, community-based participatory research, and civic leadership opportunities for UW students that sustain reciprocal partnerships, deepen learning, advance civic engagement, and contribute to our greater community. The Carlson Center is one of nine programs in the Center for Experiential Learning and Diversity that provide opportunities for UW undergraduates to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

This position will be an integral part of the Carlson Center team, working to connect academic course content with community-based learning opportunities for University of Washington undergraduates.  The Coordinator of Community Partnerships will contribute to the work of the Carlson Center by initiating, cultivating, and sustaining strong relationships with many community organizations in order to enhance student learning through substantial community engagement.  Someone in this position must be able to convey the quality and importance of community-based learning to many different constituents: undergraduate students, faculty and graduate student instructors, university administrators, donors and foundation staff, and community organization representatives (whether they be volunteers, paid staff or board members).

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Counsel students on choices for community experiences, helping them connect academic work and aspirations with community assets and challenges. Coordinate the student registration process for service-learning courses and internship experiences.
  • Work with board members, staff and volunteers at community-based organizations to develop meaningful learning experiences for UW students. Cultivate and deliver training opportunities that support the service-learning program for undergraduate students, community partners, and UW faculty and instructors. Coordinate evaluation and assessment of community-based learning experiences for students.
  • Coordinate outreach to community-based organizations, disseminate information about UW partnership opportunities and develop new partnerships through workshops, site visits, and resource materials. Maintain community partner database.
  • Coordinate partnerships with the University District community, including service providers, residents, the business community, and City of Seattle representatives.  Activities include collaborating on days of service, and planning community events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of professional experience, with a minimum of one year in a social services or higher education setting.   Experience in volunteer management or coordinating higher education service-learning programs is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly the ability to work with multiple constituencies across communication platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, follow through on independent projects, and balance multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with university students, Carlson Center community partners, and university faculty and staff.
  • Commitment to Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center’s values and fundamental mission to engage undergraduates in understanding, building, and improving our communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook), the internet and web-based forms.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
