Assistant Provost for Experiential Education, University of New Haven

Reporting to the Provost, the Assistant Provost for Experiential Education will provide leadership in strategically advancing experiential learning on- and off-campus for both undergraduate and graduate students.  The assistant provost will collaborate with college deans, department chairs and faculty & staff members to assess and advance current programming as well as develop new activities.  A commitment to providing transformational experiences through student engagement is an institutional priority, and the assistant provost will work closely with the Provost, the Associate Provosts, college deans, and also the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs to advance this strategic goal.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Provide strategic      leadership and develop systems to shape and advance university-wide      efforts in experiential learning for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Collaborate with college deans, department chairs, faculty and staff members, and the Office of Student Affairs to advance and grow student participation in current programs, including study abroad, exchange and partnership programs, community-based service learning, honors, living/learning residential communities (LLCs), undergraduate and graduate research, internship and co-operative education
  • Direct administrative staff and faculty liaisons in offices currently supporting study abroad, service learning, LLCs, honors, HSEE student organization, and student research programs
  • Provide institutional oversight of student honors projects, theses, dissertations, and other capstone or practicum activities
  • Coordinate experiential      education degree requirements, internal outcomes assessment, external      self-study and other benchmarking processes in accord with institutional      approaches for performance management and quality improvement
  • Identify new approaches      to advance outcomes of experiential education and seek external funding      where appropriate through grant proposals, foundation requests, and/or      alumni and donor support
  • Review opportunities to      host and advance NSEE workshops with fac/staff workshop alums from UNH and      collaborators from region
  • Manage disbursement of      restricted funds for experiential activities of undergraduate students
  • Perform other duties as      needed to advance the quality of, demand for, and financial performance of      experiential education programming

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Coordinate school-of-record roles with institutions partnered for study abroad and exchange programs and provide risk management supervision for study abroad, exchange, and service learning programs
  • Partner with the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs to advance UNH research initiatives, assure regulatory compliance (e.g. RCR, IRB, IACUC ) for faculty and student research, and collaborate on technology transfer and other entrepreneurship initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned      by the Provost

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • PhD or terminal degree in your field required; faculty background preferred with demonstrable record of dedication to promoting academic excellence in experiential education activities with students
  • Knowledge of experiential education theories and models of practice in a university setting; with at least five years of progressive experience in experiential education
  • Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures relevant to experiential education programs and/or supervising staff responsible for implementation
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
