MLK post Cparent

Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.

We can see that this is true still today.  Our government makes decisions that impair millions and millions of people.  Anytime there is power in a society like ours we see the affects that it has on our country.  We can use this example with taxes, welfare, healthcare, and the economy.  There are so many obstacles that we don’t think effect our day to day lives that very much do.

On a small scale we could use an everyday example.  A family cannot afford to buy their kids Christmas presents and pay their rent; they tell their landlord that they will not have the money to pay for the month of January.  That then affects the landlord’s kids and their Christmas.  See the landlord banks on having that cash in order to provide for his family which indirectly affects his children.  Everything is related like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. says in his letter from Birmingham.

Even though King was using this sentence to describe the violence, ignorance, and racism in Birmingham we can also relate this to modern day violence.  The shooting in the Batman debut this past year in Colorado had many direct affects on the families but also on the workers, cinema, and the fright it instilled in America.

In his following sentence it says , “I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be.”  King is saying that we can not individually live up to our potential without the support of others.  We have to work together, we have to be one as a nation, and by being accepting of people of all people we are allowing them to reach their goals.. King legacy is that he want to live in a society where everyone was equal, where the impoverished were helped, and the nation was stronger because of our acceptance.

We see his fight for freedom and equality continue today.

I really liked the quote that you chose as well as your connection to the world today. I enjoyed your example about the landlord getting rent money. All of this is so true.

I think this a great quote. While many Americans fail to realize it, but all of the issues you listed affect us in some way. It is paramount that we take time and notice how these issues apply to our lives.
