Two heroes that I compared were Antigone (from class) and John Q (Denzel Washington in the movie John Q). When Antigones brother is denied burial by the king, she is willing to go against the law and sacrifice her life for what she believes in, and for a family member. The same goes for John Q. His son develops a heart condition in where he needs surgery or he will die. They are a poor family, and a heart transplant is very expensive. So John Q holds the hospital that his son is staying in hostage so that the doctors would do the heart transplant. In the end their are no donors so John himself decided that he wants to sacrifice his life and heart for his son (A family member). Everyone outside of the police see him as a hero as he starts gaining “fans’ throughout the movie. He constantly protests about the healthcare situation in America and you can clearly see he is standing up for what he believes in just as Antigone did.

I think this was a great comparison. Both of these heroes give the ultimate sacrifice, their lives for their loved one. In both instances these were heroes who would do anything to make sure their loved one received what they deserved.

This was a great comparison between two very similar heroes with such similar stories. They were both willing to make a great sacrifice on there own lives for something that they believed was more important which in both cases was there loved ones.

I would have never likened John Q to Antigone. Both of these heroes do what they think is right even though it involves breaking the law. I see an air of difference, however, in that John Q was breaking the law and sacrificing himself to save a life and Antigone did so to honor a life lost.

Really good job on this post, I have never seen that movie but I am interested. The comparison of antigone and John Q. were great, both did what they thought was best for their family and didn’t care what anyone else thought. And both made the sacrifice for it.
