Meet Johnna Brooks and Kirk Carson, Winter 2021 SBEC Student Lawyers

Meet Johnna Brooks, a second-year law student from Parsippany, NJ. Johnna received her Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Marketing from the University of Delaware. Throughout college and her first year at Elon Law, Johnna interned with the New York Jets and RSR Sports Management where she reviewed contracts and analyzed data regarding salary cap negotiations, player injuries and guaranteed income. Although Johnna has a strong interest in returning to NYC to practice in the sport and entertainment industry, she believes the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Clinic will allow her to bring in-depth perspective to all her work as an attorney and businessperson in the future. Students gain hands-on experience representing businesses regarding entity choice, intellectual property, trademarks, limited patent work, incorporation, and tax exemptions, and Johnna is most excited to work with Business Clinic clients, because she will have the opportunity to help the community while expanding on her business and corporate knowledge through practical experience.

Meet Kirk Carson, a second-year law student from Winston-Salem, NC. Kirk received his Bachelor of Science in Government from Liberty University and is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science in Finance from Liberty University Online in addition to his Juris Doctor. Kirk has served on the Pro Bono Board of Elon University School of Law, has worked as Treasurer for both the Innocence Project and Public Interest Law Society groups, and is currently working as a research assistant to one of his professors. Kirk interned with the North Carolina Department of Commerce over the summer where he gained valuable experience in reviewing contracts, analyzing a plethora of data, and making recommendations on a wide range of legal issues. Students gain hands-on experience representing businesses regarding entity choice, intellectual property, trademarks, limited patent work, incorporation, and tax exemptions, and Kirk is most excited to work with Business Clinic clients because he will have the opportunity to serve those in need while growing his knowledge and experience in the business legal field.
