January is a busy month in admissions – we are reading Final Deadline applications, welcoming prospective students to campus, and planning all of our spring events. We are also in touch with many students who were deferred from Early Decision or our Early Action pools. So, what does that mean?
Being deferred means that we would like to see a student’s updated academic information and will review the application again within our Final Deadline pool.
Here are some key points to keep in mind until final decisions are released on March 15th.
- What documents are required for deferred students to send?
- We only require an official copy of first semester/second trimester grades. If you have not already done so, please contact your guidance office to send them to Elon. We only accept official copies of transcripts via USPS mail or electronically through Docufide/Naviance.
- If your school is on a unique schedule that does not allow for your first semester/ second trimester grades to be completed by February 18, please notify our office so we are aware of the situation. We will need an official copy of your grades in progress.
- Can I send anything else?
- No other documents are required of you, but if Elon is your top choice and you would like to continue demonstrating your interest in the school, the best way is through letters/email to your admissions counselor. The admissions counselors are your best advocates for deferred students moving forward. If you have not already gotten in touch with your admissions counselor, please refer to this link to reach out. If Elon is your top choice, please feel free to convey your interest to your counselor.
- Can I come to campus and interview?
- Elon does not conduct interviews as part of our evaluative admissions process. If you come to campus and would like to speak to an admissions counselor, that may be an option based on our counselors’ schedules but is not necessary for deferred students. Because many of our students come from far away, keeping in touch via email and phone may the best options if you would like to demonstrate your interest.
We realize that being deferred is disappointing, but we sincerely appreciate your interest and application to Elon University! Given the competitiveness of our Early Decision and Early Action pools, we had to defer many very strong candidates for admission. Our office hopes to continue to hear from you in the coming weeks and please let us know if you have questions.
