Director, Community Work and Learning, St. Catherine University

St. Catherine University, St. Paul, seeks a Director to provide leadership for the Center for Community Work and Learning. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, support, and evaluation of service-learning and meaningful student employment programs that advance the university’s academic and civic engagement mission. The Director, in collaboration with campus and community partners, creates opportunities to participate in a wide range of civic engagement and community-based service-learning activities and initiatives. The Director educates for social justice and lifelong civic engagement; collaborates with faculty and staff in all campus units on teaching, service, and scholarship related to best practices in service-learning; cultivates and sustains mutually beneficial community partnerships; and actively promotes a coordinated, organized and visible presence for service-learning in the curriculum. This position is a .92 FTE.

Responsibilities:

• Management and Program Leadership – Design and direct planning, implementation and evaluation of the Center’s service-learning and on and off-campus student employment programs.

• Service- Learning Course Development and Faculty Collaboration – Conduct outreach to faculty and consult individually with faculty to develop and support service-learning and community- based experiences.

• Community Partnerships – Create an institutional wide strategy and practice to work collaboratively to develop, facilitate and evaluate mutually-beneficial relationships with community organizations and schools in the Twin Cities.

• Other job responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications – Required:
• Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Education or related field is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in program coordination in higher education, non-profit or national service settings.
• Understanding of campus-community collaboration, service-learning and experiential learning.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in the development of programs/services.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse publics including faculty, community partners, students, staff and alumnae.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and sustain trusting and collaborative relationships.
• Strong organizational and management skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, including a proven record hiring and supervising a diverse professional and student staff.
• Possess deep understanding of theory and practice of service-learning pedagogy; theory and practice of student development in higher education; theory and practice of community-based research; program development and implementation experience; curriculum development and teaching experience at the higher education level.
• Knowledge of current issues and future directions in higher education, service-learning and civic engagement.
• Ability to effectively manage a budget.
• The successful candidate must have the ability to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families and communities.
Qualifications – Preferred or desired:
• Successful experience mentoring, teaching, or supervising of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Result-orientation, with demonstrated ability to set ambitious goals, lead and motivate a diverse team, and demonstrate measureable results.
• Success in writing and administering external grants.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse student and community populations.
