Associate Director for Leadership Programs, East Carolina University

The Center for Student Leadership and Engagement (CSLE) is a unit in the Department of Student Involvement and Leadership within the ECU Division of Student Affairs. The Center encourages, supports, and shapes a culture of civic responsibility through the use of leadership education and experiential learning; thereby, empowering leaders to make positive impacts on campus and in their communities. This position supports student leadership development and service through a series of programs to assist students in developing the skills, knowledge, competencies, and values necessary to become effective leaders and citizens. The programs offer students basic skills training as well as opportunities for personal growth, networking, and capacity-building that provide a foundation for ethical action and commitment throughout their lives. This 12-month position within the CSLE is 75% in the department, and 25% as an adjunct Teaching Instructor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies (RCLS). The successful candidate will teach a minimum of 3 credit hours per semester (including summers) on courses that are focused on leadership development. As a result, a primary focus will be the development and implementation of a leadership certificate for the ECU community.

The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies is housed within the College of Health and Human Performance. The department includes undergraduate and graduate degrees in Recreation and Park Management and Recreational Therapy. The students and faculty of this department serve as leaders on campus, in the region, and at the national level. The RCLS coursework provided to students is designed to enhance their leadership skills at all levels. Other units within the HHP include Kinesiology and Health Education and Promotion.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree required, Doctorate preferred, in leadership education, college student affairs, higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, or related field. All degrees should be from appropriately accredited institutions.

2. Minimum of five years relevant experience in a higher education setting;
