Senior Assistant Director for Student Programs and Outreach, DukeEngage, Duke University

DukeEngage, one of the largest civic engagement initiatives in American higher education, empowers students to address critical human needs through immersive service, in the process transforming students, advancing the University’s educational
mission, and providing meaningful assistance to communities in the U.S. and abroad. DukeEngage provides funding for select Duke undergraduates who wish to pursue an immersive service experience by meeting a community’s needs.

The Senior Assistant Director for Student Programs and Outreach, reporting to the Executive Director, will join a dynamic team of professionals who value experiential education through immersive civic engagement. S/he will oversee 40+ group programs as well as independent student projects, manage the student recruitment and selection process for 400+ participants, provide support to students and summer staff before and during their time in the field, and conduct program assessment (including travel to select program sites during the summer). The Senior Assistant Director for Student Programs and Outreach oversees student development opportunities and initiatives, and also manages outreach to community partners. This position supervises two program coordinators and the Assistant Director for Training and Student Development.

The successful candidate will have significant experience with all aspects of project management related to building domestic and international experiential education and/or civic engagement programs serving undergraduate students; strong communication and organizational skills; a passion for collaboration; experience working with faculty; and the desire to be part of a mission-driven team.

Experience:
More than 5 years of work experience in civic engagement, higher education fields required. Three or more years of managerial experience preferred.
