“Randall”

Difficulty Getting Aid

—Alamance County, NC, aid recipient—

Oh yeah. I’ve had personal experience from my mother. Yeah, I mean she worked all her life too, and one time she lost her job and had to have her gall bladder surgery, so you know she wasn’t working. She was a single parent, two kids, so she went and applied just to pay the hospital bill. And the story was, I think…

“You got a TV?”

“Yes.”

“You got a car?”

“Yes, I got a car…”

“Well, if you have all that then you don’t need assistance.”

“Randall” is employed part time and is a patient at the Open Door Clinic. He is Caucasian, in his early fifties, and was nterviewed by Jamie Albright, Nov. 14, 2012.
