We are the Xhosa Council, focusing on Communications for the 2016 Winter Term SASA Program. Our focus is to conduct an in-depth cross cultural analysis of the media portrayals of blacks and whites in The US and South Africa. In addition to research prior to departure, we will be conducting interviews and utilizing local resources to enhance our understanding of the work.
The Xhosa group is from which Nelson Mandela originates in addition to other notable South Africans such as Desmond Tutu. The Xhosa reside in the south-east region of the country. There are thirteen major clans and are known for their painted faces, clicking sounds, and chest beating dances.
