Naeemah Clark, associate professor in Elon’s School of Communications, tells her story of transformation when she learned that speaking the truth about your feelings really matters, regardless of what others may think. She explains, “I have learned that I’m allowed to speak my mind about what is sad, troubling, and mentally or physically painful. Even if it doesn’t seem like a big deal, eventually what may appear as minor, grows and festers until it is an enormous crippling mass.” She adds, “My story is about how I am working at being a whole woman, my whole self.”
Dr. Clark arrived at Elon in 2009. Her teaching focus is on entertainment industry practices. She has served on the Inclusive Community Council and the Presidential Task Force for LGBTQIA students, faculty, and staff on research strategies to ensure LGBTQIA members of the Elon community feel supported and safe. Last year she co-chaired the Presidential Task Force for Social Climate and Out of Class Engagement which developed recommendations related to areas such as athletics, first year curricula, university services, and social spaces.
