Emily DeMaioNewton is a junior creative writing major and multi-faith engagement intern at the Truitt Center. She enjoys waking up at 6:30am and spends all her free time reading and writing, which does not necessarily make for a vibrant social life, but her friends are understanding and patient. They also tolerate her eccentricities and mix of playfulness and seriousness surprisingly well, for which she is grateful. Emily is passionate about learning about the world and experiencing life as deeply as possible. If she could leave any sort of legacy, it would be helping others realize that the painful parts of being alive are just as necessary and valuable as the parts that are brilliantly lit, and by facing our darkness we get closer to the sunrise.
