Kirstin Ringelberg is a Professor of Art History; they have been at Elon for just over a decade—it seems both longer and shorter than that, which makes sense because time is not linear. Ringelberg was born in Eritrea to parents from Detroit and raised in Chile, El Salvador, and Tunisia as well as Michigan, Virginia, Texas, Colorado, California, and Calgary, Alberta. They majored in political science at Duke University in the late 80s, then did some odd jobbing (cheese buyer, DJ, movie theater manager, waiter, roadie) before committing to art history grad school at UNC. Which required more waiting of the tables and some sound technician work. They asked the students studying in Powell House how they would describe Ringelberg, and the students said “real”, “eccentric”, and “intellectually provocative”. Ringelberg was pretty psyched about that.
