Nompumelelo Nobiva grew up in Rosettenville in Johannesburg and, at age nine, lost her mother to HIV/Aids. Reared in material poverty but spiritual wealth by her grandmother, she excelled at Oprah’s South African school for girls before going to the US to study at Johnson C. Smith University, where she majored in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on global outreach, public rhetoric, and strategic communications.
She graduated top of her class and has obtained a Presidential Scholarship worth $60,000 from High Point University, where she is currently earning a master’s degree in Strategic Communications (Public Relations).
