A professor of philosophy at Emory University, Dr. George Yancy addresses the complications involved in teaching students about race within the classroom and offers suggestions that he sees as requisite for successfully engaging a group discussion and critical thought about the defining issues of our time. Yancy’s work focuses on critical philosophy of race, critical whiteness studies, African-American philosophy and philosophy of black experience.
Yancy has authored several books and has edited a collection, including Look a White!, Pursuing Trayvon Martin, and White Self-Criticality beyond Anti-Racism. Yancy has also conducted a series of interviews on the New York Times’ Opinionator section with leading scholars such as bell hooks, Peter Singer, Judith Butler, Anthony Appiah, and Noam Chomsky, among others. Yancy wrote an essay culminating from these interviews that received national attention in late 2015.
