Executive Associate Dean, Institute of Engaged Learning, IUPUI

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) seeks an innovative and visionary academic leader to serve as founding Executive Associate Dean (EAD) to lead the new Institute for Engaged Learning (IEL). The Institute aspires to become a national model for scaling and scaffolding high-impact practices across the curriculum at an urban research university.

Set to launch in fall 2018, the IEL will be the catalyst for experiential, applied, and integrative learning experiences that are a hallmark of an IUPUI education. The IEL will also be a coordinating mechanism to integrate the newly approved institutional learning outcomes, the IUPUI+, into the undergraduate curriculum. As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education and reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education, the founding EAD will be a collaborative leader who can foster relationships among a highly motivated group of faculty and staff committed to student success and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The IEL will capitalize on IUPUI’s already widespread efforts related to delivering high-impact practices and engaged learning experiences and build upon the current strengths and expertise of faculty and staff in the Center for Service and Learning, Center for Research and Learning, Office of International Affairs, and across the campus in a broad array of engaged learning experiences. The EAD will be expected to implement programming that increases student access to and institutional structures for high-impact practices to ensure that engaged learning promotes equitable educational outcomes for all students.

Basic Qualifications include:

  • An earned doctorate
  • Qualifications sufficient for an appointment as an Associate Professor with tenure at one of the IUPUI schools
  • The candidate must show commitment to and demonstrated experience successfully using a variety of high-impact practices in higher education; engagement with the national conversation around high-impact practices.
