Service Learning Coordinator, Cary Academy

Cary Academy will be hiring a Service Learning Coordinator in the next few weeks. Ideal candidate will be devoted to connecting members of a progressive, dynamic educational community to myriad kinds of service in the wider world. Coordinator will build meaningful relationships and work closely with students, staff, parents, and outside collaborators. SCOPE
The Service Learning Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating and promoting service learning opportunities for Middle and Upper School students in support of the mission of the school.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
•     Leads school-wide community service projects.
•     Supports students and adults throughout the community in planning and implementing service learning projects. Fosters community members towards greater capacity to plan, coordinate, and lead service projects.
•     Serves as the Cary Academy spokesperson and liaison for community service and volunteer initiatives.
•     Maintains a service learning calendar to ensure appropriate scheduling and spacing of service projects throughout the school.
•     Works with colleagues in ways that foster professional collaboration and exchange.
•     Works as part of a team with the Experiential Learning Director and Director of Diversity & Inclusion to foster robust community health, connections, and opportunities.
•     Tracks the annual service learning budget and allocates resources & supplies for projects.
•     Documents service projects by recording project information, taking photos, and providing regular updates to internal and external community.
•     Serves as faculty advisor to the Beta Club.
•     Shares responsibility for transporting students to school activities by driving a 14 passenger school activity bus.
•     Seeks out and engages in ongoing professional development.
•     Performs other functions as assigned in support of school operations.

WORK SCHEDULE
Days:  In general, this position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday as determined by the academic calendar. This position also has work requirements that will require modifications in the work schedule during the academic year to include work on weekend days, primarily Saturdays.  In addition, extracurricular responsibilities or unplanned academic calendar changes may also result in a modification of work schedule.

Hours:  As an exempt position, this position is expected to work the hours required in order to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above.  The actual times worked are determined by the supervisor and are based on the requirements of the position.  For purposes of determining benefits and leave eligibility and administration, this position is assigned a 37.5 hours per week work schedule.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•     Extensive knowledge of Triangle area community organizations, resources, and needs.
•     Skills in planning, implementing, promoting and evaluating service learning programs and activities.
•     Ability to work collegially with faculty, staff, and members of the external community in a highly collaborative environment.
•     Ability to establish meaningful relationships with students in a way that fosters their development.
•     Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications and ability to maintain the service learning area of the school website.
•     Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all constituent groups.
•     Ability to drive a school activity bus.
•     Ability to meet expectation of regular, predictable and reliable attendance.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:  At least 3 years of full-time work experience is required; experience directing service activities, particularly in a school setting, is preferred.
Equivalency:  Directly related experience or a combination of related experience and education may be considered in place of the above requirements.
