The Director of Professional Learning will increase the impact of higher education engagement for students, communities, and democracy through professional learning opportunities and resources. A central component of this work includes completing the development of and launching Campus Compact’s new professional credentialing program for community engagement professionals—the first of its kind. The Director of Professional Learning will also guide the Compact’s partnership with Stylus Publishing to provide leading-edge publications for the field, support the creation and maintenance of web-based knowledge resources, and oversee a redesign of our member survey. These efforts are part of Campus Compact’s strategy for impact through a diverse set of accessible, high quality resources.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the launch and implementation of a new credentialing program for community engagement professionals. This role includes achieving a sustainable revenue plan and systems for information management, marketing, and registration. Responsibilities also include coordinating governing committees responsible for program content and operations for the credentialing program and managing relationships with a network of content providers.
- Overseeing Campus Compact’s contribution to a publishing partnership with Stylus Publishing. This role includes communicating with authors, facilitating an editorial board, and serving as Campus Compact’s liaison to Stylus.
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of web resources connected to professional learning. This role includes maintaining and updating our syllabus database; maintaining and updating online program models; maintaining our resources on Civic Action Planning, including our library of knowledge hubs on key engagement topics; and developing additional resources as appropriate.
- Overseeing the redesign and implementation of Campus Compact’s survey of member institutions. This role includes collaborating with external researchers on the development and distribution of the survey and the dissemination of the results.
These responsibilities represent an integrated whole as publications, web resources, and survey results will all be organically connected to Campus Compact’s professional learning offerings.
The Director of Professional Learning will participate as a member of the Campus Compact team in the development of content for conferences and network gatherings. The position will report to the Vice President for Strategy and Operations. We expect this position to be based in Boston, though we are open to the possibility of the successful applicant being based in another location that contributes to Campus Compact’s goals.
Preferred qualifications
- Expertise in professional credentialing or aptitude for developing expertise
- Expertise in higher education community engagement or aptitude for developing expertise
- Expertise in adult learning or aptitude for developing expertise
- Doctoral or master’s degree
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated strength in program management (development, implementation, evaluation)
- Strong facilitation skills; ability to advance work through committees comprised of individuals with diverse perspectives
- Capacity to manage multiple projects on deadlines
- Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Personal qualities of integrity and commitment to Campus Compact’s mission
