Assistant Director, LAS Honors College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Under the general leadership of the Associate Dean and the Director of LAS Honors, the Assistant Director assists in the administration of and advising for the college’s honors experiences and related recognition programs, including the James Scholars Program and merit-based scholarships.
Responsibilities
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Advise and support LAS honors students, including participating in annual honors certification and responding to student inquiries
• Assist in the coordination and delivery of first year orientation course
• Assist in the selection and training of undergraduate student interns for the first year orientation course
• Serve as advisor to the James Scholar Spirit Association
• Assist in gathering and reviewing program impact data, as well as program admissions and retention data and utilize info in making recommendations for planning and decision-making
• Participate in strategic planning discussions and review of honors policies and procedures
• Assist in coordination and implementation of recruitment events and represent college at multiple recruitment events
• Assist in coordination and implementation of cohort-building and recognition events for James Scholars and specific merit scholarship recipients (e.g., Cohn and Rogers scholarship), such as Welcome Events, First Year Transition Orientation, Spring Honors Ceremony.
• Assist with honors-related scholarship award selection and development
• Assist in collaboration with academic departments in administering and overseeing central administrative support for integrated honors courses, honors credit learning agreements, undergraduate research, and related honors credit-bearing experiences
• Participate on committees as directed by the Director or Associate Dean
• Represent LAS at various admissions and recruitment events
• Provide general support for Director as needed
• Participate in general college advisor duties, service and dean-on-duty rotation and end-of-term Academic Progress Audit and Review

Qualifications
Required:
• Master’s degree; preferably in a field in liberal arts and sciences
• 3 years experience working with college students in an academic context
• Experience in academic advising/counseling or academic affairs
• Excellent ability to work independently, collaboratively with on-campus, off-campus constituencies
• Experience working with diverse groups and developed intercultural skills
• Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, data collection, analytical and report-writing skills.
Preferred:
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with high-achieving students or honors program
• Evidence of participation in relevant professional organizations or other professional development opportunities
• Record of successful program development, implementation and evaluation.
Salary and Appointment Information
This is a regular, full-time, twelve month, academic professional position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Target start date is as soon as possible after closing date.
