Dublin

What a great first day in Dublin! It’s always exciting for us to come downstairs and experience our continental breakfast at each hotel (at least for me it is), and the O’Callaghan Mont Clare’s kitchen staff did not disappoint. After fueling for the day, we embarked on our brisk walk to the tour bus stop and made our way to the top deck. It was an amazing experience to see the entirety of Dublin city even though it was quite chilly! We stopped at places such as Oscar Wilde’s childhood home and the Kilmainham Gaol, which is where some of the Easter Rising revolutionaries were housed when incarcerated. We got off of the bus at the prison stop but were unfortunately denied from touring inside due to our group size.

However, when one door closes another one opens! We used our free afternoon to go to sights such as the Guinness factory, the Dublin zoo, Ireland National Library, and some students even went to make their own chocolate (yum!). I went with a few people to the Ireland National Library and coincidentally there was an exhibit on W. B. Yeats, a famous Irish poet that we have been studying while here. The exhibit contained Yeats’ original manuscripts and his Nobel Peace Prize.

Our hotel is conveniently located alongside a bunch of restaurants, cafes, and shops. The only problem is choosing a restaurant for dinner since they’re all so good! It is also near Trinity College which is extraordinarily beautiful (might even be competition for Elon’s campus)! Dublin has been great thus far and we can’t wait to spend the rest of our time here.

We’ll keep y’all posted and will see you next week!
