Galway

Blog post: Independent Research/Free day
Today we had the opportunity to work on research for our final research project as well as explore the city of Galway to a further extent. A good portion of the group chose to attend mass in the Galway Cathedral to see how the Irish celebrate Catholicism, and our very own Joey and Tyson were asked to bring up the gifts. We noticed some considerable differences in the way that the mass was celebrated, namely not holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer and kneeling on the alter for communion instead of standing in a line. The music was played in the huge cathedral on a massive organ in the back of the church.

Afterwards, we walked to Mr. Waffles, a waffle and crepe shop, where we got some delicious food. From there the groups split off to do research and/or discover the city. Some walked along the seashore to kick an infamous wall that is supposed to bring good luck! Others went shopping for claddaugh rings and spent some time in cafes to avoid the steady downpour that hit in the mid afternoon. We finished the day off with class and then dinner.
