Today we briefly resumed our bus travels in order to reach the site of Glendalough. Originally settled by St. Kevin seeking solitude in nature, he was soon followed by others and became an early Irish monastic site. It boasts one of Ireland's most complete circular towers, a structure used as a bell tower to call the monks to prayer.
Wandering down to the two lakes its easy to see why St. Kevin set up permanence in this valley. The water is crystal clear, reflecting the surrounding snow-capped hillside. Despite being January, the flora is still beautiful, green moss, ferns and evergreen trees abundant. Everyone was delighted to see ducks milling about the lake.
We arrived back into Dublin late afternoon and continued to explore the city.
