Type

Email with a fake voicemail message attachment

Subject

There is a new phishing attempt in the form of an attachment that appears to be a voicemail message.

Content

This phishing attempt is also known as vishing (phishing using voicemail or a phone call). In this instance, an email attachment appears to be a voicemail message, but opening it could install malware (malicious software) on your machine or take you to a website requesting personal information.

Ways to Protect Yourself

  • Do not play voicemail messages from suspicious sources.
  • Do not click on any link or attachment within a suspicious email or text message.
  • Never respond to suspicious, unsolicited emails, texts, phone calls or voicemails, especially if personal information is requested. If you are unsure about the validity of a message or call, visit the company’s website or contact the Technology Service Desk.
  • Do not download anything unless you trust the source.
