The Lord of the Rings

The filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy changed the geography because it was shot in the national parks and forests of New Zealand. We were able to tour the mountain where scenes were shot and people can stay there and ski. By using the real forests of New Zealand it made the films seem real. It is very easy to see where scenes were filmed by taking a hike. The tourists flock to New Zealand for tours. A majority of the tourists are huge fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Walking the streets of New Zealand Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit t-shirts can be seen all over. WETA has made it easy for tourists to see the behind the scenes of the films. We were able to see how they created the special effects, makeup and what was edited in post. They also showed a video about the entire history of WETA. They even sell miniatures from the film for people who collect those sort of things. While inside we could not take photos because of copyright reasons but the inside was very cool and we learned a lot. Hobbiton draws in hundreds of tourist a day. It makes so much money because the franchise is extremely popular. It is impossible to go to New Zealand and not know about Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings. Wellington has been nicknamed Wellywood because of the amount of phenomenal films they have made. New Zealand is home to lots of movie fanatics and film makers. WETA has many jobs to offer to people who want to work in the industry. Kiwis can also find many jobs working as a tour guide for the films, extras in the movies, and at the local gift shops. I met a group of locals from New Zealand and they all said that Lord of the Rings is their favorite movie. None of them had been to Hobbiton but it’s on their list.
