For my letter, I decided to go with the approach that great art is meant to invoke human emotion. While different from genres like drama and romance, comedy is able to present a case to be taken seriously. It is up to us as the audience to learn enough to make something meant to be witty, a joke. I also researched data on the number of genres created over the years and its relationship to the number of Best Picture awards, as well as its market share of cinema. I think that great art has a way of fusing the past and the present together in a way that everyone can understand. If it takes a little more research, then that’s what it takes.
