Jordans MLK XC Post

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.”

This quote is if from Martin Luther King Juniors “Letter From Birmingham Jail”. I thought this quote was very powerful, and rich with meaning. I took this quote to mean that in any instance laws are being violated the entire worlds justice system is at risk. We live in a “copycat” society if one person gets away with doing something wrong another person will do the same. During this time this quote was directed towards the mistreatment of African Americans.  In any instance when people are being treated in an inhumane way it endangers the rights and liberties of people everywhere.

Immediately upon reading this I thought about how the United States often interferes with injustice issues in other countries. For example, when Saddam Hussein was President of Iraq he treated the people with cruelty and had alleged ties with the terrorist group Al-Qaeda.  Upon hearing about this injustice and mistreatment of the people the United States made it a priority to liberate the people of Iraq from Hussein’s rule. Recent discussions over whether the Unites States should interfere in conflicts around the world such as in Egypt and in North and South Korea. In my opinion the United States should because conflicts and injustice ultimately affect us all in some way just as the quote states.

I totally agree with your assertion of this quote. While it is not nationally known, has a very powerful meaning that everyone can understand.
