Strager Hero 6

P is for Parallelism. V for Vendetta does an incredible job of showing parallelism between characters, objects and symbols.  Two examples that stood out to me the most were, the dual images of V rising from the fire and Edey’s experience of rebirth rising into the rain, and the image of the dominos moving uniformly to create V’s symbol and the image of thousands of civilians all wearing V’s mask moving uniformly past the police.

The contrast of rain and fire between V and Edey’s rebirth scenes showed that although they are having similar experiences, each experience is still very unique to who they are. In both scenes, they are essentially stripped of their initial identity before the rebirth. Due to the fire V has lost a lot of skin and looks like a completely new person and in Edey’s scene, she has lost all of her as well as weight and is in a plain orange rag. Although the color orange is generally associated with being a prisoner, it could have a connection to the color of the fire that V was engulfed in during his rebirth.

The dual images of the dominos collapsing and the citizens uprising were also very poignant. Each image clearly shows the impact that one object, symbol or man, can have on thousands. Evey leaves the last domino with V on the train symbolizing how there need only be one, in this case just V, to instigate something much larger and more impactful.

I agree, there is a lot of parallelism. I find the scene with the dominoes to be interesting. V starts with 1 domino, but it also ends with one domino left standing. This could be considered to be Evey. I also see with this that V started it, he was the first domino, and Evey finished it, she was the last domino, and they are not the same person as they are not the same domino.

I also agree there ar many parallels to The Dark Knight. I also found it interesting how you briefly touched on the use of color, especially the connection between orange and a prisoners.

thanks so much for adding the connection between the first and last domino. I never thought about it like that, but it makes a lot of sense!

Great post! The parallelism and symbolism in this movie is awesome. It is interesting to me that V puts Evey through a prison experience, but in the end it makes sense because she had asked to not have fear, I think it is cool that they both went through similar situations to have that change in personality and realization of what needed to be done for the greater good of others.
