In class today we discussed the Rules of Chivarly and courtly love. After reading and discussing all of these rules they are basically impossible for all of these rules to be followed especially when some of the contradict themselves. I think they are unrealistic for any hero to follow all of them.

In today’s class discussion when we had to get in groups, two rules that we found that contradicted themselves were “No one can be bound by a double love,” and “Nothing forbids one woman being loved by two men or one man by two woman.” I found these two rules to be the ones that contradicted each other the most out of all of them. Although the two contradict each other, we found that some how Sir Gawain in “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,”was able to achieve these two things. He was able to follow these rules because he loved his wife very much but tried to avoid the hosts wife. Sir Gawain was also able to follow the rule “to be respectful to host, women, and honor.” He followed this rule because he was respectful to both his wife and the hosts wife regardless of her persistence with Sir Gawain.  Sir Gawain was surprisingly able to follow these Rules of Chivarly and courtly love.

I agree ! I think love interest and true love are different, and you can have multiple interests but only one love
