Today in class my group discussed Abraham Lincoln. He took great pride (hubris) in not letting people affect his opinions. He would also compromise something small for the greater good.

As for the example I found that is post modern in the 1900s, I believe Victoria Soto that was a 27 year old first grade teacher that died in the Connecticut shooting was a good example of a tragic hero. Kind of like Antigone sacrificing her life in able for her brother to have a proper burial. Even though Victoria was you and in a extremely scary situation she put her students first and used her body to shield her students. This put Victoria at a huge risk of taking the blow, but it was what she believed in that she wanted to provide the most protection that she could to her terrified students. It is for this that I consider her to be a tragic hero.

Others might have a different opinion on the situation but I am sure that Victoria was able to evoke her fear in order to shield her students from the nearby gunman. This was an extremely unfortunate event that took place in Connecticut, but it is people like Victoria who provide the protection of what she could to prove she is a hero.

Yeah i would agree, Victoria is a tragic hero, she was superior to the average man in the way that she was actually willing to throw herself out there to save the children when most people wouldn’t react the same way in that situation.

I would have to agree. Victoria was pitied and feared because when people think of her courageous act, it makes people fear that such a horrific act could occur in the first place. She is also pitied because she died so young and had the rest of her life ahead of her. She will definitely be well respected in America.

I would definitely agree the Victoria is a tragic hero because she was not only willing to use her energy and time to save children when most wouldn’t, thus making her superior. She seems to fit all the criteria.

I agree completely with this post. Victoria is the definition of a tragic hero due to the incredible sacrifice she made for her students and her courageous act for a normal citizen. She will always be pitied for dying at such a young age but will always be remembered for her heroic actions.

I absolutely agree that Victoria is a tragic hero. She is automatically superior to the average man because not many would take a bullet for their students. She is pitied because her life was taken during this tragic event but she will forever be remembered as a hero in every ones eyes.

This was a great example. Her courage reminds me of another hero named Liviu Librescu who was a holocaust survivor and a professor at Virginia Tech that held off a gunman to give his students time to escape and was killed during the 2007 attack.
