Crave & Moon

I watched several title sequences on Art of the Title and two of them really stood out to me.  The first was the title sequence for Crave.  I’ve never seen or even heard of this Movie but the title sequence is pretty dark and sinister.  The premise is a bunch of whirligig contraptions animate a series of murders or killings in a very retro gritty fashion.  The dark color scheme of rusted metal and old pieces of wood make for an extremely impressive title sequence.  I’ve never seen this movie but I could probably make a very educated guess about what happens in the movie solely based on this title sequence.

The other title sequence that I thought did a very good job of this was the one for a movie called Moon.  I have seen this movie and going back and re-watching this title scene is very rewarding.  The beauty of this sequence lies in the positioning of the text.  Now knowing what the movie is about and some of the characters in it, it makes so much sense now.  The text is very unassuming and if your not paying attention you won’t even pick up on it.  The text in this title sequence could be viewed as a metaphor for the character Gerty, an artificial intelligence system that helps the main character.  Gerty is always present in the movie but is never really visible. The main character thinks that Gerty is on his side but ultimately is his worst enemy.  The text in this sequence is similar, it is almost hidden like it’s watching or stalking you.  It gives the title sequence a very erie vibe that translates into the movie.
