Snapped: Steampunk Minion Edition

The Good News

Interesting point of view, very steampunk meets despicable me. The use of black and white only enhances the dark and foreboding effect, not to mention the murder but the style itself lends to a certain feel while ignoring the subject matter. However, if we take a look at the subject matter we see, I assume a bot torturing another bot from which a jehovah’s witness like bot comes to call but instead gets murdered. Then we assume the original torturer gets murdered because the torturee begins to fidget with fear. All in all, the title is very misleading. The animation is and of itself very well done. I love the ripped and steampunk style along with the seamless digital manipulation.

Hounds of Flesh

Well firstly, this is a very creepy animation. I get this innocent vibe from the actual characters and a horror movie feel from the setting. Its almost like watching a porn with fluffy animals….it just doesn’t fit. The blind television is a strange addition to the cast and the personified TV dog is interesting. We learn that the other characters are dead from the amount of blood (oil??) on the walls. I really loved the MC Esher style stair case, it makes me think that the artist wanted to create a gateway into a thought process or new world. I am trying to figure out if the loud sound was gunshots or electricity sparking. The strange cells make me think of the cells from V for Vendetta. Its all very macabre.

Pizza Sangre

That poor pizza delivery TV. This made me think of the hills have eyes, where the family is in on the murders, even encourages the sick and twisted depravity. However, this female TV is pissed at the killer bot and the killer bot is not guilty about the murder itself but more that he has disappointed the female bot. It is interesting to note that the female bot is markedly female due to glasses and a higher octave of noises that she makes. Even crazier is that the female bot does not seem angry at the murders per say but more like he just made a mess or something. It is not an unforgiving “you murdered someone” angry. However, happy ending because the TV dog got the pizza!

Overall, these animations are twisted but well made. I like the scenery and overall style of the animations but I do not like the actual story. Mainly because there are no ends tied up, mostly it feels like the artist is being random for randoms sake. It lacks clear depth.
