What is Art and Does it Matter?

Art is just as important to the artist as it is to the viewer. Sometimes an artist doesn’t care if the viewer understands their creation. But if that message is important to you as an artist, you have to know who is going to be seeing it and what they will getting from it. In that way, an expressionism painting may face the same challenge as marketers. The message is key. I don’t want to sound like I’m under valuing art with that comparison but thought it would give some relation to a more professional area.

I am never going to be a great painter or sculptor but that doesn’t take away the importance of art to me. The different areas of art provide so many unique mediums to share a message and create. Looking at the art in our book for the last few weeks, I am amazed at how much inspiration I found for my own projects. These artist are doing things I never would have imagined or thought I’d appreciate it.

If you want to develop a skill, you find someone better than you and study them- What do they do? How to they start? What are their inspirations? What are their failures? This method applies to everyone from artist to athletes. If you want to be a better designer, get in the mind of someone great and see what they do. What works for others may not be successful for you or every situation. But it is still worthwhile to try and explore different avenues of communication.

I have tried to be more aware of art I like in the past year or so. When I see designs or layouts I find to be creative, I generally try and do a quick Google search for the creator or company. Even if I don’t find what I want to know, I still file it away for future inspiration.
