What is Art?

I don’t think there is one singular answer to “What is art?” Art is a form of expression, it is a way of communicating thoughts, feelings, ideas, problems, solutions, etc.  Art is everywhere.  Even if we disagree and find a piece repulsive or unattractive, there is someone, somewhere connecting with it and understanding it.

I think it’s important to be aware of different artistic movements as a reminder that people are individuals with their own opinions/perceptions, own views of what is right/wrong, and their own idea of beauty.  Art is a good reminder to be open to new ideas and ways of life.  It reminds us to think creatively and outside the box, therefore helping us in turn to apply artistic approaches to our own work.

We are in a program based on creativity and personalization for client/consumer use.  We need to understand other’s thoughts, feelings, and needs in order to be successful.  I think it is important to be aware of revered professionals in your area of study to recognize how they reached their success.  Looking at the characteristics of certain people allows you to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses that help and hinder you from reaching your goal.
