Online guides to archival collections
If you are researching a particular person or family associated with Elon University or are just interested in learning more about individuals who have passed through Elon’s doors–we might have a manuscript collection that suits your needs. Many of our manuscript collections have finding aids (or guides) to accompany them in order to make your research a bit easier. Now these finding aids are available online!
The Elon University Archives contains a collection of personal papers mostly relating to the history and people associated with the school. The finding aids below are available to help researchers use the manuscript and archival collections that are the primary sources of information about these collections.
A finding aid is an inventory of an archival collection. The finding aid provides contextual information about the collection and its creators, and it also outlines the collection’s arrangement.
Finding aids may provide some or all of the following information:
- Time period covered by materials in the collection
- Size of the collection
- Biographical or historical background of the creator(s) of the collection
- More extensive notes on the scope and contents of the collection
- Description of the organizational structure of the collection
- Container list describing the contents of the collection at the box, folder, or item level
