Moodle Support: Missing a course on your list? Here’s what may be happening

Posted on: February 4, 2019 | By: Tarah Holland | Filed under: Moodle, Teaching & Learning

It’s the first day of spring semester and you’ve logged into Moodle, only to find that one of your courses is missing. Whether you’re a student or an instructor, this can be a little unsettling. But don’t panic. Here’s what may be happening.

Are you a student?

If you are a student and cannot see your Moodle course, first consider when you enrolled in the course.

If it has been a while, your instructor most likely has not yet made your course available to students. Once your professor makes the course available, it will appear in Moodle under your course list. There also is a chance that courses will not be available to students until the first day of classes.

If you enrolled in the course more recently, for example earlier today, then you will be included in the next enrollment update. This means that you will have to wait a day or two for the update to occur. If you are still unable to see your course, wait for your instructor to make that class available to all students. You may want to email your instructor to see if he or she plans to use Moodle. In some instances, an instructor may not use Moodle, therefore, you will not see it listed in Moodle under your courses.

Are you an instructor?

If you are an instructor of a Moodle course and do not see your course listed in Moodle, please be aware that your enrollment into the course is dependent on when you were assigned to the course in OnTrack. If you were assigned to the course in OnTrack more than two days ago, the course will appear as a gray link further down the page because it is unavailable to students by default. You can also search for the course ID using the search box on the Moodle homepage.

If you were assigned to your course more recently, for example in the past day, you will be included in the next automatic enrollment update. This means you may have to wait a day or two for the enrollment update to process the change. If you still do not see your course after two days, please call the Technology Service Desk at (336) 278-5200.
