Dumela!

Welcome to the Basotho Council blog site. Curious about what our council will be doing before and during our trip to South Africa? Here’s a little more information about our group.

We are responsible for organizing some of the policies and best practices for our study abroad group, to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. Our focus will be on three categories: photography, children/school events, and religious events. We will be informing other students about how to behave in certain situations and what the rules are, as well as briefing them before each event in South Africa. We are also responsible for monitoring the social health of the group, ensuring that all member feel included and encouraged to participate, and that each member is aware of how to act culturally sensitive while in South Africa. We are also excited and always eager to assist other groups with their own tasks as well.

Our council plans to accomplish this goal by creating an itinerary packet before the trip for each student. This packet will contain a day-by-day schedule of where we are going, what we will be doing, and some tips for how to navigate these activities successfully, including proper attire, photography rights, and guides to interacting with others.

The Basotho council is ready to bring lesedi (light) to this trip, both by providing information and a positive environment for our group.
