Elon University’s Xi Omicron Chapter of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, welcomed its new student, faculty, and staff inductees to the honor society. An undergraduate English major and outgoing Elon University President, Dr. Leo M. Lambert delivered a keynote to the attendees, “The English Major in a Changing Higher Education Landscape.”

In his speech, Lambert encourages students to continue supporting undergraduate education, particularly within the field of humanities. He addresses the importance of a university education in preparation for citizenship, finding academic passions, and writing a meaningful narrative for one’s life. He tells the inductees that any profession or life path is possible, regardless of your major in college. The drive and excitement to learn, create, and grow is what makes a successful post-graduate. Lambert says “the future belongs to the creative”.
