Coordinator, Student Community Engagement Center, Portland State University

The Portland State Student Activities and Leadership Programs’ (SALP) mission is to enrich and integrate students’ leadership and academic experiences in order to educate students to be ethical, socially just, and civically engaged leaders on campus and in their larger communities. SALP does this advising student government, working with student-run businesses and student media, overseeing the Portland State Programming Board, advising nearly 200 student organizations and the student-run funding boards, and coordinating the Student Sustainability Center and Student Community Engagement Center.

The Coordinator of Student Community Engagement Center oversees the entire service-learning program which includes creating and tracking the budget, selection and evaluation of the practicum students, maintaining relationships with community service sites and placing student volunteers, coordination of all service projects, and assessment of the program. The Coordinator facilitates a class for the year-long student participants using the SALP curriculum. The coordinator is a model, resource, and mentor to the students in the program. The Coordinator may supervise a full-time AmeriCorp Vista position, a graduate intern or assistant, and at least two hourly student employees.
