The University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) is a progressive, interdisciplinary professional school offering a Bachelor of Science in Information, a Master of Science in Information, a Master of Health Informatics, and a Ph.D. Our mission is to create and share knowledge so that people will use information – with technology – to build a better world.

The Office of Professional and Community Engagement (OPCE) manages activities that are a critical function to forward the School’s goals for continued excellence and connections between our professional programs, community members, and practitioners in the information field. The OPCE is a new office at UMSI, coordinating a diverse portfolio of curricular and co-curricular engagement opportunities in alignment with the University’s engaged learning initiatives.  The OPCE is made up of a team of engaged learning specialists who create and manage a portfolio of student opportunities and community partnerships in relevant career areas including, but not limited to, corporate/industry, government, not-for-profit, community engagement, civic technology, design and innovation, and global engagement.  The OPCE is a highly collaborative, progressive, and high-achieving office that values teamwork, innovation, a student-centric purview, and likes to have fun at work everyday.

Reporting to the Director of Professional and Community Engagement, the Intercultural and Global Engagement Coordinator will manage the School’s signature global engagement programs (the Global Information Engagement Program, Peace Corps partnerships, etc), study abroad advising, bilateral agreement exchanges, and related programming that promotes the development of intercultural awareness and humility and deep global engagement.  The successful candidate will lead advising, programming and related activities for all students who seek to participate in global programs and other experiences, and will collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs and the Career Development Office to enhance advising, programs, and workshops for study abroad, international internships and other global activities that lend to the professional outcomes desired by students.  In addition, this role will be in charge of developing strong working partnerships and relationships with global/study abroad vendors and institutions, School of Information leadership, and constituents across campus. An ideal candidate seeks to enhance students’ learning outcomes in the areas of intercultural awareness and global engagement, while acknowledging the broader goals of the Office of Professional and Community Engagement.

Reporting to the Director of Professional and Community Engagement, the Design, Innovation, and Engaged Learning Program Manager will manage the School’s design clinic, design and innovation advising, and related programming that promotes the development of professional skills in related areas.   The successful candidate will lead advising, programming and related activities for all students who seek to participate in design, innovation, entrepreneurship and other experiences, and will lead and collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs and the Career Development Office to enhance these activities that lend to the professional outcomes desired by students.  In addition, this role will be in charge of developing strong working partnerships and relationships with community organizations and institutions, School of Information leadership, and constituents across campus. An ideal candidate seeks to enhance students’ learning outcomes in the areas of self-agency, creativity, and design, while acknowledging the broader goals of the Office of Professional and Community Engagement.
