VISTA LEADER, NC Afterschool Corps AmeriCorps VISTA Project

NC Campus Compact is recruiting for an AmeriCorps VISTA LEADER (VLDR) to support its new NC Afterschool Corps project. The VISTA LEADER will work with the Program Coordinator and other Compact staff to support a cohort of up to 15 VISTA members, serving to build the capacity of afterschool programs across the state. ALL APPLICANTS MUST HAVE COMPLETED 1 YEAR OF SERVICE AS AN AMERICORPS VISTA or PEACE CORPS MEMBER! If you are not a recent alumni of either VISTA or the Peace Corps, you will not be considered.

The goal of the VLDR position is to provide member support and program management assistance, with primary responsibility for coordinating and improving member professional development and improving program performance measurement, including data collection and reporting. Member duties include:

  • Assessing current training practices and developing professional development and training curriculum based on cohort needs.
  • Acting as primary point of contact for VISTA members, maintaining weekly contact to provide resources and technical support.
  • Supporting VISTA communication platforms, such as the VISTA Facebook page and weekly email.
  • Assist Program Coordinator in recruitment and selection of VISTA members.
  • Assist Program Coordinator in monitoring VISTA member progress reports, time logs, and other work products.

Skills and experience:

  • Completed 1 year of VISTA or Peace Corps service (required)
  • Post-secondary degree (Bachelor’s preferred, or Associates degree with equivalent experience)
  • Experience in afterschool or youth development setting
  • Other skills: Non-Profit Management, Fund raising/Grant Writing, Communications, Recruitment, Conflict Resolution, Counseling, Education, Public Speaking, Youth Development, Team Work, Community Organization, Teaching/Tutoring.

Additional Info: This position works out of the NC Campus Compact office, located next to the campus of Elon University. Elon is a selective, mid-sized private university renowned as a national model for engaged and experiential learning. Students work closely with faculty who are dedicated to excellent teaching and scholarship. The curriculum is grounded in the traditional liberal arts and sciences and complemented by nationally accredited professional and graduate programs. Elon’s residential campus is located in central North Carolina and is regularly recognized as one of the nation’s most beautiful collegiate environments.
