Assistant Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement, Queens University of Charlotte

Summary

The Assistant Director’s overall mission is to support a program focused on diversity, inclusion and community engagement for the purpose of student learning and development. This full-time, 12-month position reports to the Assistant Dean of Students for D.I.C.E in the Office of Student Life, which reports to Academic Affairs. The full-time position specifically supports service learning as an expression of community engagement and represents a unique partnership between Student Life and Academic Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Collaborate with and support the Assistant Dean for D.I.C.E and the Director of the Stan Greenspon Center for Peace and Social Justice in creating partnerships in the community for service learning and community engagement.
• Collaborate with and support the Director for Community Engagement (a faculty member in Academic Affairs) in integrating service learning into the curriculum.
• Provide administrative support for the programs and vision of the D.I.C.E. office as well as for the Director for Community Engagement (a faculty member in Academic Affairs).
• Project manage existing and new partnerships for service learning/community engagement.
• Plan and manage a portfolio of on-campus student engagement/service opportunities, working with students and other staff.
• Assist in raising the profile of D.I.C.E. and service learning both on and off campus.
• Train and supervise 8-10 work study students.

Non-essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and university needs
• Assist students and other guests who visit the office
• Serve on an advisory committee with faculty, staff, and students

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required
• Must enjoy working with college-aged students and have a passion for contributing to an environment that embraces and promotes diversity and inclusion
• Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to quickly learn and assimilate new systems and information
• Exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control large and small projects through to completion
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including exemplary poise, tact and diplomacy when working with a wide range of constituents and diverse audiences
• Collaborative work style as well as ability to work independently
• Detail oriented and produces work that is error-free; able to self-identify and correct own errors.
• Must thrive in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
• Ability to quickly analyze and resolve problems and implement efficient solutions
• Demonstrated ability to keep confidences and work with sensitive material
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Brings to the position 2-5 years of experience in similar role(s)
• Available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends to meet demands of the position
