Community Engagement Coordinator, Florida State University

Florida State University’s Center for Leadership & Social Change seeks a collaborative, creative, student development educator to lead initiatives at the intersection of service, diversity, and leadership.  The Student Program Coordinator will work with colleagues to transform the lives of students, faculty, and staff through community engagement, leadership education, and identity development.

THE POSITION 

The successful candidate will possess experience in the realm of community engagement/service, with an emphasis on diversity and leadership.  Reporting to the Associate Director of the Center for Leadership & Social Change, the Program Coordinator engages in administrative, programming, and educator roles, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Coordination of community engagement programs that include analysis of partner agency needs and our students’ abilities. These programs include, but are not limited to our Moellership and Alternative Breaks programs.  Coordination may include budgetary and staffing responsibilities, and the supervision of graduate students contributing to the effort.
  • Facilitation of faculty development by promoting standards, practices, and opportunities related to service-learning. Maintenance of our service-learning database, and active development of curriculum, awards, and grants related to community engagement.
  • Facilitation of student leadership and citizenship development through periodic teaching in our Leadership Studies Certificate program, coordinating special topics seminars (such as Community Dialogue or Election programming), and contributing to our Service Scholar curriculum. May advise student service and/or leadership organizations.
  • Develops and delivers educational awareness presentations related to the Center to various University and community constituents.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidate must possess experience in student development through community engagement, and be prepared to utilize the lenses of leadership, diversity, and identity development in this work.  Preferred qualifications include experience with the local non-profit community as well as academic service-learning.  This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, which includes fingerprinting.   Minimum qualifications include: • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree, plus two (2) years of additional experience.  Master’s degree preferred. • Experience in student development through community engagement. • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.  • Ability to develop and facilitate workshops and training sessions.  • Experience mentoring, advising, and/or supervising students (graduate and undergraduate).

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The salary for this position is in the mid-30s with a competitive benefits and professional development package.
