Assistant Director of Public Engagement, Wake Forest University

Supports public engagement initiatives, especially around issues of hunger, community development, and civic engagement. Assists the Director of Democratic Engagement and Justice Programs to develop programs that support student learning.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates all aspects of The Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest University (CKWFU); trains student leadership team, oversees cooking and distribution shifts, manages all paperwork and risk management protocols, and maintains a relationship with The Campus Kitchen Project.
  • Identifies and maintains ongoing partnerships with community-based organizations that serve as meal and produce delivery sites for CKWFU. Conducts site visits and continuous assessments.
  • Oversees the development of a food pantry at CKWFU. Coordinates all aspects of the pantry, including delivery and distribution, volunteer shifts, and marketing.
  • Plans Hunger and Homelessness Week and Turkeypalooza. Engages student leaders, plans and coordinates curricular content, and markets the programs both on campus and in the community.
  • Develops educational programming related to issues of food insecurity.
  • Manages Dash Corps program for emerging leaders; recruits and trains student leaders, develops relationships with community-based organizations and facilitates the RFP process for projects, coordinates training, and plans showcase of final action projects. Assess all aspects of the program.
  • Coordinates PHI support of the Diaper Bank of the Triad. Provides resources and support regarding volunteer recruitment and management.
  • Serves as liaison to student organizations and individual students who are interested in service projects.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with local nonprofits, agencies, and civic organizations, and identifies volunteer opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Works with Director of Democratic Engagement and Justice Programs to develop a strategic plan for poverty alleviation programs in Winston-Salem.
  • Manages relevant graduate student assistants and undergraduate student leaders.
  • Attends and supports PHI programming.
