Assistant Director for Knowledge Communities and CLDE Initiatives, NASPA

The Assistant Director for Knowledge Communities and CLDE Initiatives coordinates NASPA’s Knowledge Communities (KC) program by liaising with KC volunteer leaders, managing communication and annual volunteer leader training, and coordinating all KC processes such as those connected with the NASPA Annual Conference and the election of new KC leaders. Working collaboratively with NASPA staff and volunteers, the Assistant Director also plans and implements various activities as part of NASPA’s Lead Initiative on Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (Lead Initiative) that involves a network of nearly 100 NASPA member colleges and universities committed to encouraging and highlighting the work of student affairs in making civic learning and democratic engagement a part of every student’s college education. Reporting to and collaborating with the Director of Leadership and Senior Student Affairs Officers Initiatives, the Assistant Director serves on a team of professional development staff at the NASPA office in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contact for the NASPA Knowledge Communities;
  • Collaborate with National KC Director, National KC Chairs, and Regional KC Coordinators on professional development offerings and other knowledge creation and sharing efforts;
  • Partner with NASPA staff and KC leaders to coordinate and implement robust online professional development offerings related to KC foci and interests;
  • Lead the development and implementation of KC volunteer leader trainings during the NASPA Annual Conference and additional trainings offered online throughout the year;
  • Manage the presence and participation of KCs during NASPA’s Annual Conference;
  • Collaborate with NASPA staff to coordinate the annual election of KC Chairs;
  • Serve as the primary contact for NASPA’s Lead Initiative;
  • Coordinate the network of NASPA Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Lead Institutions;
  • Serve as the NASPA staff liaison with the identified Lead Institutions in order to assist them with their institutional goals and programmatic initiatives;
  • Partner with NASPA staff and Lead Institutions to promote activities and successes of Lead Institutions through blogs, social media, and other communications channels;
  • Highlight and include Lead Institution projects for solving community problems in NASPA’s annual awards program;
  • Partner with NASPA staff to develop and implement civic learning and democratic engagement programming for conferences and workshops sponsored by NASPA;
  • Support research projects and writing on the civic learning, democratic engagement and leadership topics through the NASPA Research and Policy Institute;
  • Coordinate and assist with planning and development of additional NASPA sponsored programs, workshops, institutes, and online programs;
  • Serve as a resource for member and public inquiries; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree required. Educational background in student development, higher education administration or leadership development preferred.
  • Employment experience in a professional association and/or in student affairs administration preferred.
  • Experience with civic learning and democratic engagement initiatives on campus preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn new technologies/computing applications easily.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative and creative self-starter who can also work independently. This person should be able to expand upon existing programs and relationships, as well as produce new ones that increase membership and programmatic offerings.

The priority deadline for this position is December 15, 2014, however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. This is a full-time, 12-month position based in Washington, D.C. Competitive salary based on education and experience, with generous benefits package.
