Director Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, Wright State University

Wright State University seeks a dynamic, high energy professional to serve as the Director of Service- Learning and Civic Engagement. Wright State is a comprehensive research university with approximately 17,000 students, offering more than 100 undergraduate degrees and nearly 50 Ph.D., master’s and professional degrees. Wright State is located near Dayton, Ohio, with a branch campus on Grand Lake St. Mary’s in Celina, Ohio. Wright State has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the past four years in recognition of its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement.

The Director of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement will provide leadership for the promotion, development, support and assessment of service-learning and engaged civic learning initiatives at Wright State University, including the Engaged Citizenship Studies Certificate program. In support of the university’s mission to “transform the lives of our students and the communities we serve,” the director collaborates with academic departments and other campus units to provide meaningful community service that prepares students for lifelong participation in democratic society as informed and civically engaged citizens. The director works to expand the presence of service-learning in the curriculum and supports faculty and students in developing and implementing service/community-based learning and research. The director actively cultivates and sustains mutually beneficial relationships with community organizations to address community-identified needs and to create a wide range of opportunities for faculty and students to engage in community-based learning and civic life.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or higher in an academic discipline
• Minimum 5 years experience teaching service-learning/community-based courses
• Experience in service-learning/community-based research/scholarship
• Experience with working with diverse student, faculty, and community partners
• Evidence of strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in an academic discipline
• Experience in service-learning/community-based program management and/or service-learning assessment
• Attainment of tenure or similar academic achievement
• Experience in writing and managing grants supporting service- learning projects and programs.
