Campus Vote Project State Coordinator, North Carolina

Campus Vote Project (CVP) is a campaign of the nonpartisan Fair Elections Legal Network (FELN) that is designed to empower students, faculty, and administrators with the tools they need to break down barriers to voting for college students. Approximately two-thirds of students aged 18-24 who did not vote in the 2010 elections cited lack of information reasons and not a lack of interest. CVP seeks to overcome this information deficit by providing community colleges and universities with non-partisan electoral engagement programming and empowering students with the information and tools they need as our democracy’s newest voters.

The CVP toolkit and Best Practices Guide lay out a set of specific programs schools can implement to provide students with better access to registration and voting. For example, registering students locally at freshman orientation, direct online access to registration forms and setting up a website with voting information specifically aimed at students will eliminate some of the barriers that keep students from the polls.
