Assistant Director for Community Engagement, University of North Carolina at Greensboro

The Office of Leadership and Service-Learning, a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at UNCG, serves as a catalyst for experiential curricular and co-curricular leadership development and service-learning initiatives that empower students to effect positive change and serve as citizen leaders in a global community. Through civic engagement, integrated learning, and reflective practice we equip students to develop a personal, professional and civic identity.

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director for Community Engagement, who reports to the Director of Leadership and Service-Learning, provides leadership in the development, implementation, and assessment of co-curricular service-learning/community-based learning opportunities, volunteer service, community partner capacity building and advocacy. The Assistant Director fosters relationships on and off campus that lead to sustainable programs designed to enrich student leader development through service and build capacity for life-long civic engagement. The Assistant Director will advance institutionalization of curricular and co-curricular processes and infrastructure for a continuum of service opportunities ranging from entry level to advanced experiences of community engagement. Qualifications:
Master’s degree required. Three years of experience in higher education administration, community agency administration, student leadership development, or related field. Related field must include knowledge and experience of community-based learning in higher education or within a community agency. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience fostering partnerships between community and university members. Candidate should prove to have excellent oral, written, project management, documentation and reporting skills and the ability to set priorities among competing demands. Other qualifications include the ability to create and deliver effective instructional presentations for faculty and students, collaborate effectively with a diverse range of populations, and communicate program goals to the members of the University and UNCG community. The successful candidate has knowledge of the research on student development and community engagement, and demonstrates experience conceiving, planning, facilitating and evaluating reciprocal collaborations among higher education institutions and the communities where they reside. In addition, this position will need to inspire, motivate and support students, staff, and faculty in their efforts within community engagement education to prepare for effective citizenship. Availability for occasional evening and weekend programming is essential. Ability to use multi-media strategies for program development and administrative duties. Course development and college teaching experience a plus.
